While still in graduate school, Kand was asked to present on the topic of gender identity and quickly became a highly sought-after speaker. Since then, Dr. Kand has conducted numerous presentations and workshops on a variety of gender-identity issues, which have been very well received. Dr. Kand manages to successfully weave a delicate balance of academic presentation coupled with personal story that has proven to be quite moving and effective. Topics have included the following:
It’s a dichotomous world in which we live
Identity: Transgenderism, intersexuality and the assumed dichotomy
Gender identity issues in children and adolescents
Medical and ethical concerns on the transgender issue for young persons and parents
Breaking the gender dichotomy: The case for transgender and intersex education in school curriculum
Transgenderism 101: The inadequacies of the two-gender paradigm
Are two enough? Transgenderism, intersexuality, and the assumed dichotomy
Transgender issues in the workplace
Sexual differentiation and the falsification of the two-sex/two-gender assumption.
Regardless of the specific topic, these talks are grounded in the inadequacies of the dichotomous paradigm.
Dr. Kand was a completely riveting keynote speaker at the 2009 Midwestern Bisexual Lesbian Gay Transgender Ally College Conference in Bloomington, Indiana, which is the largest LGBTQQIA youth conference in the United States.

I just want to say I got very wonderful experiences in your class, and the class of "Gender Identity" impressed me very much. Kand's ("?"..sorry, I am not good to remember English names) self experience made me think a lot. I believe some knowledge can come from books, but the experience cannot. Moreover, your clear speech and expression also help international students to catch important points a lot and I can feel your enthusiasm of education which makes me moved.
Just wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed your talk! You are an excellent presenter---very well structured talk, clear and passionate delivery, really helped lead people through the concepts and framework in a way that was easy to follow. And I think people really respond to your honesty and openness in talking about your experience. I was just way impressed!
I just wanted to tell you that I think you are an amazing speaker and loved hearing you share your story! Thank you for telling us to come.
Thank you for sharing your very personal insight to a misunderstood aspect of humanity. Thank you for being bold enough to share this sensitive subject with persons who may never understand and with those of us who really desire to better create a caring atmosphere in our classrooms. I found your presentation riveting and interesting on the human level and from the scientific perspective as well.
Thank you so much for sharing your story and I know I am a better person for meeting you and listening to you. Your presentation was powerful and flawless. Please keep doing what you are doing and stay confident in knowing that what you are doing is so necessary. Thank you for being the one. You take a risk that inspires me and I am grateful that you do. Thank you Kand, and I hope to see you soon.
Today you gave a talk to my Gender Studies Class, G101, and I wanted to thank you for doing so. I found your story to be deeply heartfelt and passionate. This clearly personal topic was presented very professionally and touched me greatly. You were the best speaker I've witnessed since attending IU. I just wanted to commend you on your efforts to find understanding of transexuals and speaking out on this socially taboo subject. Not many people would be able to do what you do had they been in your position, so you should be outstandingly proud of yourself. So thank you again for your story, I won't forget it.
Hey there...I'm a freshman at IU and want to be a teacher. I just wanted to say thank you so much for you inspirational delivery about transgenderism tonight. I was truly touched by your story and feel the need to become more informed as a teacher.
Your speaking today really touched me and helped me to think about a lot of things I wouldn't have normally thought about, and I wanted to let you know what a difference you are making.
" Kand McQueen is the most articulate speaker on issues of gender identity I have ever heard… Kand has a unique style – a common sense approach which combines passion with perspective and honesty with humor. I have heard Kand present in a classroom of 25 students and in an auditorium of 1500 people and in each situation I noted a level of attentiveness on the part of the audience which was palpable… I would highly recommend this fascinating individual to any person or group .
