Marga Gomez is a Cuban-Puerto Rican legend of queer stand up comedy and critically aclaimed solo performance.
Marga Gomez is the writer and performer of eight solo plays: Long Island Iced Latina, Los Big Names, A Line Around The Block, Memory Tricks, Marga Gomez is Pretty, Witty & Gay, Jaywalker, The Twelve Days of Cochina and Marga Gomez's Intimate Details. These productions along with her collaboration with Carmelita Tropicana, Single Wet Female, have been produced nationally, internationally and in New York at The Public Theater, The 47th Street Theater, Performance Space 122, Dixon Place and La Mama ETC. She has worked with director David Schweizer on five of the plays.
Ms. Gomez is the recipient of a 2006 Drama Desk nomination and a 2004 GLAAD Award for Off-Off Broadway Theater, and the 1994 Theatre LA's Ovation Award for her performance with Culture Clash at the Mark Taper Forum. Her acting credits include The Vagina Monologues at the Westside Theater, HBO's Tracy Takes on..., Guiding Light, Batman Forever, Sphere and indie favorites Rosa Negra and The D Word.

will co-star with Marga, Jason and Vidur when OUTmedia's Queer Riot! performs at MBLGTACC '09, the largest queer youth conference in the US at IU-Bloomington on 2/13.
Theater: "Long Island Iced Latina"
Marga's hilarious theater piece about Latino/a's who can't speak spanish and suck at Salsa. In "Long Island Iced Latina" Marga Gomez pours a long tall drink of cultural confusion, chronic virginity and mother daughter instability. What begins as a hilariously dark memoir of Gomez as the only brown girl in a white high school morphs into an intoxicating manifesto for Latinos who can't speak Spanish, suck at Salsa, and suffer from Blonditis. "We're everywhere." Gomez claims "And we vote!" Marga received the GLAAD Award for Off Broadway theater and the Los Angeles 'Ovation Award' for best actress for her work with the seminal Latino ensemble Culture Clash. Gomez's newest work, "Long Island Iced Latina" drew full houses in 2008 at New York's Teatro Stagefest and the University of Indiana at Bloomington. In 2009 the show will hit San Francisco's Marsh Theater and Miami as a co-production of the South Beach Comedy Festival and Miami Light Project.

Marga Gomez, shares her recipes for success in theater, comedy and life in a fast paced blend of performance and conversation. Marga will discuss the evolution of and perform highlights from two of her one woman shows: the GLAAD award winning Gay Pride comedy “Marga Gomez’s Intimate Details” and the Drama Desk nominated Latino family spectacular “Los Big Names.” This presentation will illustrate how one can use humor and art to build bridges across intolerance. It will also include a Q&A session and (if health codes permit) a cooking demonstration.
