HOT, HOT Julie will be sizzling crowds in PTown, MA all summer at the Vixen from July 5- August 31. We expect cardiac, but hope for, only urinary emergencies.
For those of you who haven't caught her standup act, Julie Goldman doesn't shy away from gay and lesbian-themed humor. In fact, these days she is slaying crowds with a character known as Indigo Etheridge, which she performs as part of her standup act and sometimes solo with a full, all-male band.
Billed as "a lesbian folk-rock sensation," Goldman uses Indigo Etheridge -- a bandana, leather chaps-wearing dyke who sings about everything from strap-ons to sluts -- to playfully parody the lesbian music scene. Goldman has even released an Indigo Etheridge album, entitled Co-Dependent Obsessive Love Ain't So Bad, So Leave The Window Open. Songs on the release include the anthem "I Go Down" and "Monogamous Slut," the music video for which has been shown at film festivals all over the country.
Funny enough, not everyone gets the joke. "I've been to [music] festivals where people don't realize it's a joke," Goldman says. "Or maybe they're so serious that they can't joke about themselves."
Goldman -- who plays guitar and has a solid singing voice -- dreams of performing onstage one day with Melissa Etheridge. "How great would that be to do a duet with Melissa Etheridge as Indigo Etheridge?" she says.
Indigo Etheridge, the creation of Julie Goldman, is "Spinal Tap" meets "Lilith Fair" meets "Mental Patient". Indigo is brash, unapologetic, and has been told by numerous record labels and industry insiders that her lyrics and overall appearance contains "rough imagery" and "overt lesbian content" and just cannot be played over the air. "People might not get the joke" and it's "Just too Risky," says Goldman. Indigo Etheridge is a pioneer of freedom, of speech, freedom of sexuality, and the freedom to enable your addictions through Rock 'n Roll.
" Not since Gilda Radner's Candy Slice character on SNL has a Spinal Tap-esq female rocker caused such a sensation. .
