"She’s witty, she’s wonderful, she’s the gay man’s Wesbian!" raved Elmer Fudd. With 20 years of gay stand up experience at her hip, comedian Shann Carr weaves a storytelling style that makes you feel like you're sitting in your living room with an eccentric friend who has your whole dinner party in stitches.
Since 2000 Shann has been the sole lesbian entertainer on over 20 Atlantis cruises. “That’s right 2000 gay men… and me…on a boat!” She knows her gay men and they love her. “My girlfriend was worried sending me out to sea. She consoled herself by guessing that if there were problems, women and children would get off first. I laughed and told her ‘On this trip I think twinkies and queens are first. Heck, they’re expecting the dyke to fix the ship before it goes down!’ ”
Carr is also the Executive Producer of GirlMoxie Studios. Since 1990 she has produced a comedy series of live shows, TV and film, all under the title “Out For Laughs.” Recently GirlMoxie released OUT FOR LAUGHS-ON THE OCEAN which is a Docu-Comedy that follows three comedians, a drag queen a piano player and a hypnotist working and frolicking on the gay cruise ship circuit.
Comedian Shann Carr continues to keep up the tempo. Just signed for a seventh consecutive year with Atlantis Cruises, her feet barely manage to hit the ground before she takes off on land again. She just spent 14 steamy, hot, days working in Chicago with Proud TV at Gay Games. Carr worked in front of the camera and behind it, on the crew that was filming the official DVD for Gay Games. In September she will address the faculty of Valparaiso law school on the topic of the gay community. She says she took the job because the combination of law and sexuality… in one context made her horny!
Shann is also wrapping up her book “You’re Going To Be Gay - A ‘Family’ Photo Album”.
Among her favorite gigs in the last few months was a show, in a barn in the rural town of Alfalfa, Oregon. Although the show was intended to offer the local, country-gays a little gay entertainment… mostly only neighboring ranchers and farmers were in attendance. “I’d usually say that lesbians and cowboys are the two groups of people, most inclined to yell out during a show “That’s not funny!” But she said she that she was delighted to find how receptive and open minded the Alfalfans really were. As always audiences leave Shann’s show feeling like they know her… or she knows them. One of the most comfortable comedians you’ll ever enjoy.
Given the room in the venue, her grand finale will blow your nipples off when she impersonates people on the dance floor. These include “The couple that's been together too long,” “a drag queen” and “the person whom you can tell would be good in bed!”
